The Big Belch, graphic novel by Kay Wood ©2014Will a major oil company’s greed and foolishness spawn an environmental disaster that might actually threaten the earth itself? And can this horror be foiled by a baby boom couple in Philadelphia aided by a clever parrot and a cute French bulldog? That’s the plot of The Big Belch.

The Big Belch is the first in a proposed Cane and Able series of environmental mystery graphic novels with baby boomers Monty Cane and Maureen Able, their companions, Fletcher, a very intelligent and sometimes cantankerous parrot, and Francois, an extraordinarily lovable French bulldog, and their endlessly irritating source of unusual challenges, Dr, Harold Zin.

It’s a zany story – kind of a Dr. Strangelove meets big oil. The Big Belch starts when the greed and carelessness of the world’s biggest oil company, Big Oil Inc. (known to all as BO), causes an enormous oil spill with vast ecological destruction. In their quest to save their bottom line they engage in a reckless experiment which if it goes awry it could blow up the world in a giant methane blast.
